T238 Brushless AEG Motor
Finally a reliable brushless motor worth upgrading to. With a traditional brushed motor you need to compromise between speed and torque but this motor is exceptional in both respects.
It has a potentiometer adjustable on the bottom with a small flat blade screwdriver for RPM so you can dial it in to exactly before PME on full stroke (apply a very tiny amount of loctite after you find the sweet spot).
Last season we installed a few into Leviathan Blackouts (enable brushless mode before install) to test and they're running 28 RPS / 1.5J / ~30ms semi auto cycle time / 11a.
Extremely snappy and battery efficient. Hot Summer weather was no problem and they run beautifully in all day sub zero Canadian Winter too.
The D type pinion (loctite the retaining screw after everything is running correctly) has good mesh with ZCI gears although the fit in the motor grip is slightly different compared to the ZCI motor.
It's best to reshim the gearbox starting from pinion to bevel and up when changing brands of motor. After 75,000 BBs through my Blackout the coating on the gear teeth was barely scuffed. Note that brushless motors tend to be less forgiving if the shimming is off.
Compared to other brushless on the market, this motor is a lot better than initially expected based on prior experience with Option No1, SOLINK, Warhead, which all exist burnt out in our motor graveyard despite having never been used with active braking. They were deemed no where near reliable enough to offer as an additional upgrade and troubleshoot.
When the new batch of Blackouts arrive we'll be offering the T238 brushless motor as an upgrade for Leviathan builds with the reshim and rps done before shipment.
